Sensory Overload with Busy Moms

Have you come home from a long day at work to 1,000 things attacking you at the door and you feel like you could explode? Yes that is me!

Being a mom is a full-time job in itself. It is also the most rewarding job we could ever have. For many of us busy moms the constant juggling of responsibilities can lead to sensory overload. From hearing "Mom" all day, to trying to get everyone out of the door on time, making sure everyone's appointments are made, getting groceries, its no wonder that many moms feel overwhelmed and overstimulated.

Sensory overload occurs when our senses are bombarded with too much information, leading to feelings of stress, anxiety, and exhaustion. For busy moms like me, this can happen all too often as we try to keep up with the demands of their family, work, and personal life.

One of the biggest sources of sensory overload for moms is the constant noise and chaos that comes with having children. Although I only have 1 child, a lot of moms are quickly overwhelmed with the sounds of crying children, arguing siblings, loud toys on top of the never-ending list of tasks that have to be done.

In addition to the noise, the visual clutter of toys, clothes, and household items can also contribute to sensory overload. Trying to find a pair of shoes in a sea of clutter or constantly tripping over toys can add to a mom's feelings of overwhelm and frustration. I am constantly looking around my house, seeing all the stuff and thinking how can we get rid of some of this stuff we don't need! The constant clutter.

To help combat sensory overload, busy moms can try implementing some simple strategies to create a more peaceful environment. This could include setting aside time for self-care, such as taking a bath or going for a walk, to help recharge and reset their senses. I always give my husband time with our daughter to get their energy out and during that time I go upstairs to take a long hot bath. Single moms, you can take a bath once you put your kids to bed or do a home yoga session.

Moms can also try to create a calm and organized space in their home by decluttering and creating a designated area for toys and other items. This can help reduce visual clutter and create a more peaceful environment for both mom and her children.

Finally, it is important for moms to remember to prioritize their own well-being and seek support when needed. Whether it is asking for help from a partner, friend or family member, or seeking out professional support, its important for moms to take care of themselves in order to better care for their families.

Being a busy mom can be overwhelming at times, but by recognizing the signs of sensory overload and taking steps to create a more peaceful environment, moms can better manage the demands of their daily lives. By prioritizing self-care and seeking support when needed, moms can navigate the challenges of motherhood with more ease and grace.
